"cannot add audio track to clip" - davinci resolve

the export worked fine. then it started throwing this error in the middle of a project. doesn't work even on a claen new timeline without any audio clip. I don't think I changed anything about the project settings, but I'm relatively new to davinci, so what could have gone wrong? I'm stuck.
