Cannot make MPG2 format file from Vegas Pro 20

  • Hello,

    I am trialing Voukoder Pro 2.0.7 with Vegas Pro 20 on a Windows 11 machine (Intel i7). I have the 14 day trial license.

    When I attempt to do a render with Voukoder Pro to create a MPG2 file for dvd, I get to the Rendering window, but then I get the error message "Unable to start Voukoder Pro ". The designer wouldn't let me use AAC or AC3 or PCMDVD for the audio, so I tried to make the video stream only (deleted audio node).

    My path is set as follows:

    PATH=C:\Program Files\VoukoderPro\;C:\Program Files\FFmpeg\;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\WINDOWS\System32\OpenSSH\;C:\Program Files\ffmpeg-7.1-full_build\bin

    I have used original Voukoder with Vegas for several years, and have had excellent experience with it.

    Thank you Daniel for your hard work on this.

    What version of FFmpeg did you install install in C:\Program Files\FFmpeg\ . I guess Voukoder Pro gets a bit confused now there are 2 versions of FFmpeg in your path, but it should actually pick the first one it finds.

    Can you try to rename the directory name of C:\Program Files\ffmpeg-7.1-full_build\bin (only in explorer, NOT in the path variable) so it finds only the FFmpeg in C:\Program Files\FFmpeg\ ? Does that work?

  • Hi,

    I renamed the 2nd ffmpeg directory, rebooted, re-created the scene with MPG2VIDEO, PCM(Uncompressed)DVD, and Mux to MPEG2VIDEO. A message appears at bottom of Muxer tile that says "unsupported DVD". (I get the same message with AAC, AC3 and AC3 repaired options.)

    Once the render window is open, the "cannot start Voukoder Pro" message pops up.

    I prepared another scene with MPG2VIDEO only, having deleted the Audio node, and the same thing happens.

    If I use a scene with Prores, AC3, Mux = MOV, it works, although with very low bitrate. I haven't figured out yet how to set target bitrates and quality.

    It's good to use the "Scene Test" feature to test your settings.

    This works for me:

    Not all containers accept all encoded streams (But Matroska does).

    I guess you could also export VOB files for DVDs.

    or as an MPEG2 Transport Stream:
